Welcome to The Third Life Crisis!
Hi, I’m Monica—a proud slashie and ex-accountant turned jeweller and illustrator. Growing up as an Australian-Chinese kid, I followed the traditional path my parents set for me: excelling at school, balancing piano lessons with sports, and prioritising “serious” subjects over creative ones. Art and design always lit me up, but I was the good kid who listened when Mum said, “You’ll starve as an artist!”
After high school, I took the classic Asian-parents-approved path: a commerce/arts degree. I landed a coveted role at a Big 4 accounting firm and dove headfirst into the corporate grind. The punishing work hours and studying for CA made life feel miserable. As a means to escape, I started a jewellery side hustle alongside my full time job and with glowing feedback from customers and momentum, I decided to quit my accounting career and retrained in jewellery!
Now during my ‘third life crisis’, I’m faking my way through adulthood (who really knows what’s going on?), making shiny things, drawing cute stuff, and memeing my way through the chaos. It’s been a roundabout journey, but every step has brought me here. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: it’s never too late to chase what truly sets your belly on fire!
