This 26 week creative project revolves around 26 topics, each starting with a different letter of the alphabet – originally the brainchild of Struthless.
It explores the unique childhood experience of growing up as an Aussie Asian kid, blending the distinct cultures that shaped my formative years. Each week, I’ll focus on a different letter of the alphabet, diving into nostalgic elements like TV shows, treats, toys, and more, with an East-meets-West twist. For example, the letter ‘A’ might highlight iconic ‘A’ named items from both cultures, in this case ABC TV shows I loved to watch after school, Ahh! real monsters, Agro and Aeroplane jelly.
I chose this theme to reconnect with my roots and relive some of the simple joys of childhood that often get lost in the hustle of adult life. Between the never ending cycle of work, buying groceries, meal prepping, exercising, cleaning and maintaining relationships, it’s easy to forget the carefree pleasure of play. Through this project, I aim to slow down and rediscover those moments of pure fun, using colored pencils or textas—simple craft tools used during childhood mimic texture and emphasises the beauty of each line. These humble tools allow me to focus on the process, feeling the rhythm of each stroke as I bring these memories back to life. It’s my way of celebrating the blend of cultures that defined my upbringing, while reminding myself to pause and indulge in the simple pleasures once again.
All artworks are free to download for you to print and enjoy in your home, give as a gift etc as a member of my Struggle Club!
